Avenir Telecom
Avenir Telecom is a telecommunications company based in Marseille, France. It was founded in 1989 and is currently a member of the CAC Small 90.
Avenir Telecom UK focuses on the wholesale distribution of telecommunications products via dealers to SME businesses
A brief history of Groupe Avenir Telecom:
- 1989 Avenir Telecom is founded in Marseilles, France
- 1993 The first ever SMS message was sent when a Sema Group employee texted a friend to say "Merry Christmas".
- 1994 Avenir signs a distribution agreement with Iternis, the company that goes on to become Orange
- 1995 Avenir launches its first ever accessories range (Top Suxess)
- 1997 Across Europe, the Avenir group becomes heavily involved in business-to-business sales. In France, Avenir launches its first network of high street stores, under the Phone Shop brand name
- 1998 Avenir is listed on the French stock exchange
- 1999 Avenir launches the Internity brand
- 2000 Avenir Telecom UK is launched - Mobile phone usage mushrooms: 5.1 million handsets are bought in the UK alone during Christmas 2000
- 2005 There are now more handsets in the UK than people!
- 2006 In the UK, Avenir Telecom wins Mobile Business magazine's Best Distributor award
- 2007 Avenir Telecom UK wins two UK awards: Mobile magazine's Airtime Distributor of the Year and Mobile News' Best Distributor - Networks
- 2008 Andy Tow appointed managing Director of Avenir Telecom UK
- 2008 Decision taken to focus on B2B and so develop the mobile dealer market and also enter the IT reseller market
- 2009 Decision taken to enter the comms dealer market
- 2010 Avenir Telecom UK appointed the first Strategic Partner for O2 UK
- 2010 Announces strategy to launch the UK's first transactional telecoms comparison website exclusively for businesses - connectingbusiness.com
